With over 28 years of photographic experience, Jessica Rastelli began her love of photography as child, and it grew while working on her high school yearbook and developing B & W film. She pursued a business career in college, but minored in photography…always with the hopes of having a career in photography. That career was encouraged by winning a Kodak Student Photo Contest.
While shooting some motor cross races, capturing all the action, she was offered good money for the images she shot. Her brother told her there were companies in Arizona who printed on-site at similar races, and she should consider it. Well she did. Starting with one camera, one laptop, one LCD screen and one printer, along with her mother, Susan, they began shooting local hockey and high school sports and grew quickly in size and reputation. They were soon lugging a lot more equipment to the high school and elementary sporting events. Known as the “picture ladies”, they were even interviewed by Vic McCarty on 9 & 10 TV News, because they were the only daughter/mother team and the only women in the area that shot action sports. Jessica shot the games and Susan, downloaded, edited and printed the images. It was hard physical work but they enjoyed it. The Year Book Staffs loved the images that they donated to the schoools each year.
Jessica perused her photography education with college classes, and New York Institute of Photography. Jessica and Susan continue their Photographic Educations and improving their skills with numerous conferences, webinars, and classes…keeping current in her profession. Jessica has had many of her photographs published in Magazines, Newspapers, on the Pure Michigan Web Site and many other websites.
In 2010 Jessica was blessed with the birth of her baby girl, Maya, a true miracle. Because of Maya, they decided to open a home-studio, so Jessica could raise Maya and run her business more easily. They do not do as many sporting events now, but will continue to do Pop Warner and Special Sporting Events. They are concentrating on Portrait Photography along with Weddings and Special Events. They continue shooting Events such as the Traverse City Film Festival and other fundraising/community events. Jessica is the principal photographer. Susan, who has a MBA and business background, runs the business end and acts as the second shooter at events.
